Line Detection Tool v1.0 (LDT1)

Hussein Mohammed

The main goal of this software tool is to analyse images of writing supports in order to detect lines (such as printers marks or papyri fibres) and estimate their density. The main tasks achieved by this software tool are:

  • Detecting lines in pre-selected orientation.
  • Calculating min and max spacing, and density within a pre-specified length.
  • Providing evaluation of detection accuracy for images with ground-truth information.
  • Generating visualisation of detection histogram for manual inspection.
  • Allowing for rotation correction and parameter change in order to optimise the detection results.

The research and developement for this software was funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) under Germany´s Excellence Strategy – EXC 2176 ‘Understanding Written Artefacts: Material, Interaction and Transmission in Manuscript Cultures’, project no. 390893796. The research was conducted within the scope of the Centre for the Study of Manuscript Cultures (CSMC) at Universität Hamburg.
