Artificially brightened surfaces to increase albedo: Climate-Engineering by altering surface albedo seems like an easy-to-understand solution to reduce global warming. However, the interventions are substantial, whether by altering ecosystems or covering surfaces with reflective materials, and their consequences are largely unstudied. Moreover, the costs are disproportionate to those of the much more effective reduction of greenhouse gases. Nevertheless, some measures appear to make sense, at least regionally in agriculture and in cities, in terms of changing the local climate.
