application for an individual 36-month research
grant for the project "Political Spaces of Climate
Governance" and presents its conceptual and
theoretical foundation. As such, it is itself a
work in progress and subject to updates and
specification for its application to more concrete
cases and research designs covered within this
project. A previous version of the paper was
presented at the 2023 ECPR Joint Sessions of
Workshops in Toulouse (Workshop 26: 'Towards a New
Era of Environmental Risk Regulation in the EU').
The project was granted by the German Science
Foundation (DFG) in early 2023 and launched on 1
July 2023 (grant number 441493451). This support
is gratefully acknowledged. The author would also
like to thank the Center for Sustainable Society
Research (CSS) for hosting the project and
agreeing to publish the present manuscript in its
Working Paper Series. Any comments and input are
                   highly welcome.}},
