Standardised System for the Labelling of Analytical Data

This document shows a standardised system for the uniform file labelling of analytical data (spectroscopic measurements and spectral images) captured with instruments from the Artefact Profiling Lab. As the fleet of instruments can change constantly, this document will be adapted on an ongoing basis.
This standardisation is advantageous for several reasons:
- For most scientific projects we use a multi-analytical approach, i.e. objects are analysed at the same spots/areas with several instruments. Uniform file labelling therefore makes it easier to compare data captured with different instruments.
- Uniform file labelling also facilitates the creation of a clear analytical protocol (marking the exact position of measured/imaged spots/areas on images of the analysed object, Appendix 1), which is of the utmost importance when examining cultural artefacts.
- Finally, uniform file labelling enables the creation of a electronic lab notebook (Appendix 2) in which individual measurements/images can be easily traced and quickly found using search functions.
