The second issue of the series ‘Written Artefacts as Cultural Heritage’ provides translations of the much-acclaimed manual ‘Be prepared: Guidelines for small museums for writing a disaster preparedness plan’. It is available open access. The English original of the manual was first published in 2000 by the Australian Heritage Collections Council. By translating it into French, Spanish, and Arabic, we wish to support a wider range of caretakers in archives, libraries, and museums around the world in preparing for cases of emergency and preserving their (written) heritage collections.

Written Artefacts as Cultural Heritage was established in 2020. The series is dedicated to the double role of written artefacts as representations and generators of humankind’s cultural heritage. Its thematic scope embraces aspects of preservation, the identity-defining role of artefacts as well as ethical questions. Every volume of Written Artefacts as Cultural Heritage is peer-reviewed and openly accessible. You can request hard copies of each issue for free from the editorial office.
