Not all shrinking lakes are equally affected. Shallow lakes with large surfaces and low water volumes, often exposed to strong winds and heat, are particularly vulnerable. The shallow Neusiedler See in Austria, a unique soda and steppe lake, risks drying up completely without local efficient water use and adapted landscape management.
