  <dc:description>This dataset contains information on stable isotopes (δ13C and δ15N) and stomach contents from different life stages of the smelt Osmerus eperlanus from the Elbe estuary. Our investigations revealed different food preferences along the river course, suggesting local food ecology characteristics of this key species.</dc:description>
