Collection description

The Hasan bin Ameir Collection (HAC) was created by digitizing materials from the library of books belonging to Ḥasan bin ʿAmīr al-Shirāzī (d.1979). Located in the Madrasat Hassania Mtegani Makunduchi in Makunduchi, Zanzibar, the library was established by his students after his death. Hasan bin Ameir was one of the most prominent scholars, teachers, and Muslim writers of his era as well as a Qādiriyya shaykh and activist. These traits are reflected in the variety of books in his library. The collection includes 192 Arabic-Islamic books from various printing houses around the world. Almost all contain ownership notes written in Ḥasan bin Ameir's own hand on the inside cover, explaining how and when he acquired each. In terms of genre, most of the books focus on fiqh.

Several other series of images were created by ZIAR. These include MPRINT-ZIAR-FIC, MPRINT-ZIAR-Kajwenga; MPRINT-ZIAR-Kibuteni; MPRINT-ZIAR-Ndijani; MPRINT-ZIAR-Pemba; MPRINT-ZIAR-Stonetown; and MPRINT-ZIAR-UNGUJA UKUU KAEPWANI. These constitute other small collections belonging to various families and caretakers but grouped by geographic location.
