    <description descriptionType="Abstract">&lt;p&gt;Gew&amp;auml;sser pr&amp;auml;gen die Landschaft und gestalten auch das Bild unserer St&amp;auml;dte und Gemeinden. Im urbanen Raum m&amp;uuml;ssen Flie&amp;szlig;gew&amp;auml;sser unterschiedliche Funktionen erf&amp;uuml;llen. Diese Funktionen, so zeigt die Geschichte, unterliegen einem historischen Wandel, der von der Beziehung Mensch-Wasser gepr&amp;auml;gt ist. Obgleich die Gew&amp;auml;sser mit der EU-Wasserrahmenrichtlinie zunehmend in den Fokus ger&amp;uuml;ckt sind, ist die &amp;uuml;berwiegende Zahl der Gew&amp;auml;sser in keinem guten Zustand. Der Klimawandel und die Urbanisierung wirken als zus&amp;auml;tzliche Stressoren, welche die Funktionalit&amp;auml;t gef&amp;auml;hrden. Gleichwohl kann festgestellt werden, dass sich die Gew&amp;auml;sser zunehmender Beliebtheit im Stadtbild erfreuen, gleichzeitig kommt es zur schleichenden Aufgabe &amp;ouml;ffentlichen Raums zugunsten privaten Eigentums.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;em&gt;&lt;strong&gt;The City and the Country - Urban Waters in Transition:&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/em&gt; Waters shape the landscape as well as the image of our cities and communities. In urban areas, watercourses have to fulfill different functions, which are subject to historical change marked by the relationship between man and water. Although the waters under the EU Water Framework Directive have increasingly come into focus, the majority of the waters are not in good shape. Climate change and urbanization act as additional stressors that endanger the rivers&amp;rsquo; functionality. Nevertheless, the waters have enjoyed increasing popularity in the cityscape, even as the public space is being gradually abandoned in favor of private property.&lt;/p&gt;</description>
