To that purpose, we set up a laboratory with a range of high-end instruments, most of them mobile, allowing thorough non-destructive analysis of written artefacts. Through a selection of examples from Byzantine manuscripts we will present our equipment and the possibilities offered by the different techniques available to contribute to both archaeometrical and philological questions: typology and classification of inks, provenance studies, recovery of faded inscriptions and palimpsests, reconstruction of the history of manuscripts, authentication and dating.</p>","doi":"10.25592/uhhfdm.12422","keywords":["CSMC","UWA","Manuscript","Written Artefacts","Artefact Profiling","RFK02","RFD07","Multispectral Imaging (MSI)","X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF)","Infrared Reflectography (IRR)","Mobile Lab","24th International Congress of Byzantine Studies","Venice","Padua","Byzantine","Ink analysis","Damaged Writing","Pigment Identification","RFK","RFD"],"language":"eng","license":{"id":"CC-BY-4.0"},"meeting":{"acronym":"ICBS","dates":"22-27 August 2022","place":"Venice and Padua (Italy)","session":"FC66 - MANUSCRIPTS: TEXTUAL TRADITIONS, PHILOLOGY, PALAEOGRAPHY AND CODICOLOGY","session_part":"PART I","title":"24th International Congress of Byzantine Studies, Byzantium \u2013 Bridge Between Worlds","url":"https://byzcongress2022.org/"},"notes":"The research for this presentation was funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) under Germany's Excellence Strategy \u2013 EXC 2176 'Understanding Written Artefacts: Material, Interaction and Transmission in Manuscript Cultures', project no. 390893796.
