To that purpose, we set up a laboratory with a range of high-end instruments, most of them mobile, allowing thorough non-destructive analysis of written artefacts. Through a selection of examples from Byzantine manuscripts we will present our equipment and the possibilities offered by the different techniques available to contribute to both archaeometrical and philological questions: typology and classification of inks, provenance studies, recovery of faded inscriptions and palimpsests, reconstruction of the history of manuscripts, authentication and dating.</p>","identifier":"http://doi.org/10.25592/uhhfdm.12422","inLanguage":{"@type":"Language","alternateName":"eng","name":"English"},"keywords":["CSMC","UWA","Manuscript","Written Artefacts","Artefact Profiling","RFK02","RFD07","Multispectral Imaging (MSI)","X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF)","Infrared Reflectography (IRR)","Mobile Lab","24th International Congress of Byzantine Studies","Venice","Padua","Byzantine","Ink analysis","Damaged Writing","Pigment Identification","RFK","RFD"],"license":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/legalcode","name":"ICBS 2022 presentation: Material analysis of inks from Byzantine manuscripts","url":"https://www.fdr.uni-hamburg.de/record/12422"}
