title = {{Am Vorabend der US-Präsidentschaftswahlen:
Repräsentative Befunde zu Erwartungen, Wünschen
und Sorgen der Menschen in Deutschland. UHH MOTRA
Spotlight No. 11. Hamburg: Universität Hamburg.}},
month = oct,
year = 2024,
note = {{Executive Summary As part of the "People in
Germany: International" study, a representative
sample of 2,931 adults aged between 18 and 70 were
asked about their wishes and expectations
regarding the outcome of the election around a
week before the US presidential election on 5th of
November 2024. Furthermore survey participants
were asked what political consequences an election
victory for Trump or Harris would presumably have
for Europe and Germany and what fears people
associate with this. Only 23% say that they do
not care at all about the outcome of the US
presidential election. A large majority of 72.4%
would like to see an election result in favor of
Kamala Harris. Only 21.2% would prefer Donald
Trump to win the election. However, 37.4% consider
the likely outcome of the election to be
completely open. 40.8% believe Harris is likely to
win the election. Only 21.8% expect Trump to win.
Just under a quarter of respondents (23.1%) agree
with the statement that "more politicians like
Donald Trump should also come to power in
Germany". In comparison two thirds (68.7%) of
respondents agree that "more women like Kamala
Harris should be in government positions in
Germany". If Donald Trump wins the election,
negative consequences for Europe are expected much
more frequently than if Harris wins. 74.0% of
respondents expect economic disadvantages for
Europe if Trump wins the election. In the event of
Harris winning the election, this figure is only
27.1%. If Trump wins the election, 73.7% expect
Europe to be left to its own devices militarily.
If Harris is elected, only 26.6% expect this. If
Trump is elected, 61.1% are worried about the
future of democracy. If Harris is elected, the
figure is only 28.5%.}},
